The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) has taken another step toward internationalizing its domestic football competitions. The 2025 edition of the Saudi Super Cup will be hosted in Hong Kong, following a new agreement signed between SMC Group—SAFF’s exclusive commercial partner—and SUM KM Sport.

Scheduled for August 19 to 23, 2025, the tournament will feature four prominent Saudi clubs: Al-Ittihad, Al-Qadisiyah, Al-Hilal, and Al-Nassr, with all matches played at the 40,000-capacity Hong Kong Stadium.

Strategic Expansion of Saudi Football Saudi 2025 Super Cup Hong Kong

The move is part of a broader strategy by SAFF and SMC Group to promote Saudi football globally by staging official tournaments outside the Kingdom. It aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which includes a strong focus on developing the sports industry, diversifying revenue sources, and enhancing the international profile of Saudi sports entities.

The agreement was signed by SMC Group Chairman Mohammed Al-Khereiji and Leftion Sports CEO Andy Howe, representing SUM KM Sport. The signing took place in the presence of Naeem Al-Bakr, a member of SAFF’s Board of Directors and Chairman of the Competitions Committee.

Ibrahim Al-Qassim, Secretary General of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, described the move as a qualitative shift in the tournament’s positioning:

“Hosting the 2025 Saudi Super Cup in Hong Kong enhances the tournament's global appeal and reflects its growing reputation as one of the most prominent regional competitions.”

Hosting in Hong Kong: Regional and Market Access

This will be the first edition of the Saudi Super Cup held in East Asia, expanding the tournament's reach beyond the Middle East. Hong Kong was selected due to its established infrastructure, growing football market, and strategic geographic position for Asian football expansion.

The Hong Kong Stadium, originally built in 1953 and renovated in 1994, is the official home of the Hong Kong national team and is expected to provide both logistical capabilities and commercial visibility for the event.

Baoyi Feng, Chairman of SUM KM Sport, commented on the significance of the hosting rights:

“This collaboration offers an opportunity to bring top-tier Saudi football to East Asia. It reflects the global standing of Saudi clubs and the Kingdom’s growing reputation as a hub for international sporting events.”

Broader Commercial and Strategic Context

For SMC Group, the hosting agreement is a continuation of its strategy to position Saudi football properties as exportable sports assets, suitable for international markets and new commercial ecosystems.

Chairman Mohammed Al-Khereiji framed the deal as part of a broader vision:

“We aim to raise the profile of Saudi sporting events globally and open new commercial and strategic channels that align with the Kingdom’s leadership goals in international sport.”

This initiative follows recent moves by Saudi football authorities to attract global broadcasting deals, club-level foreign investment, and strategic collaborations with international organizations across multiple continents.
