Joan Laporta has been re-elected as President of FC Barcelona, securing a new mandate from club members following the latest presidential elections.

Running under the “Defensem el Barça” candidacy, Laporta received 32,934 votes, representing 68.18% of ballots cast, comfortably defeating rival candidate Víctor Font, who received 14,385 votes (29.78%). A total of 984 ballots (2.04%) were submitted as blank votes.

Laporta Secures Fourth Presidency FC Barcelona

Laporta will now lead FC Barcelona for the fourth time, following previous presidencies between 2003 and 2010 and his return to office in March 2021, when he won the previous election with 54.28% of the vote.

The 2026 election therefore extends his influence over the club’s governance structure during a period in which Barcelona continues to navigate financial restructuring, stadium redevelopment and broader strategic transformation.

Barcelona remains one of the few major European clubs still operating under a member-owned governance model, where the president and board are elected directly by club members rather than appointed by shareholders.

Member Democracy Remains Central to Club Governance

The election highlighted the continued importance of member participation within FC Barcelona’s governance structure. Under the club’s statutes, eligible members — known as socios — vote to determine both the club’s president and the composition of the board of directors. Laporta described the result as a strong endorsement from the membership following the announcement of the final count.

Executive Comment

Speaking after the results were confirmed, Laporta said the outcome provides renewed momentum for the club’s future.

“This is a resounding result and it gives us great strength. Exciting years lie ahead.”

He also emphasised the significance of member participation in the election process.

“This is a wonderful club, where the members elect their president and board of directors. It is something unique in the world.”
