FC Bayern München has confirmed the acquisition and long-term operation of Sportpark Unterhaching, establishing the venue as the new central base for the club’s women’s and girls’ football programmes. The site will be operated by Allianz Arena München Stadion GmbH from 1 January, marking a significant expansion of Bayern’s owned and managed sports infrastructure.

Following planned infrastructure upgrades, the Sportpark will host the full training and matchday operations of FC Bayern Women. From the 2026/27 season, the stadium is also scheduled to stage the club’s UEFA Women’s Champions League home matches.

Infrastructure Investment Focused on Women’s Football

The move represents a clear shift toward dedicated infrastructure for women’s football, rather than continued shared use of venues primarily designed for men’s competitions. The Sportpark Unterhaching includes a stadium with a capacity of 15,000 spectators, more than 8,000 seats, three training pitches, and ancillary facilities such as a clubhouse and hospitality areas. Additional plots within the site provide further development potential, offering flexibility for future expansion or commercial use.

Integration into Bayern’s Real Estate Portfolio FC Bayern

Sportpark Unterhaching becomes the fourth major property operated by Allianz Arena München Stadion GmbH, alongside the Allianz Arena, the FC Bayern Campus and BMW Park. This consolidation under a single operating entity suggests a deliberate strategy to apply centralised venue management, compliance oversight and cost control across Bayern’s growing property portfolio.

Initial works at Unterhaching will focus on meeting UEFA Women’s Champions League infrastructure requirements, indicating that regulatory readiness is a primary operational driver.

Continued Use by SpVgg Unterhaching

Under the agreement, SpVgg Unterhaching will remain a tenant at the stadium, continuing to play home matches there as before. This shared-use arrangement allows Bayern to secure long-term control of the asset while maintaining local football continuity and avoiding displacement of an existing club. Such hybrid ownership–tenancy models are increasingly common in stadium transactions, balancing investment security with community integration.

Strategic Context: Women’s Football as a Growth Segment

The decision comes amid accelerating institutional support for women’s football in Germany, including the recent formation of Frauen-Bundesliga e.V., which is expected to strengthen governance and commercial development of the league.

By securing a permanent home for its women’s teams, Bayern reduces dependency on scheduling availability at larger venues and gains greater autonomy over matchday operations, training logistics and fan experience design.

Regional Economic and Planning Considerations

Local authorities described the transaction as an economic catalyst for the municipality, highlighting anticipated spillover effects for grassroots sport and local infrastructure. From Bayern’s perspective, locating the facility a short distance from Säbener Straße preserves operational proximity while avoiding congestion and cost pressures associated with central Munich sites.
