Valencia CF has announced a new ownership agreement with Pitchwise Holdings, a consortium of family offices and long-term institutional investors, in a transaction valuing the Spanish football club at €1.25 billion on an enterprise value basis.

Under the agreement, Pitchwise will acquire shares from existing owner Meriton Holdings and contribute €100 million in new capital for direct investment in the club. The consortium is expected to hold a 42% stake, while Meriton will retain majority ownership and Kiat Lim will remain Valencia's president.

The investment group is led by sports executives Ann Rodriguez and Corey Woolfolk, with backing from investors including KKR co-founders George Roberts and Henry Kravis, as well as Penner Sports Group, the ownership group behind the NFL's Denver Broncos.

The transaction, announced on October 23, remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.

Pitchwise to Acquire 42% Stake as Meriton Retains Control Valencia

The agreement introduces a new institutional investor group into Valencia's ownership structure while preserving Meriton Holdings' majority position.

Pitchwise will acquire a significant minority interest through the purchase of existing shares from Meriton. Separately, the consortium will provide €100 million in fresh capital intended for direct investment in Valencia CF.

The distinction between the two components is important. The purchase of existing shares represents a transaction between shareholders, while the new capital contribution is intended to provide additional financial resources to the club.

Valencia said the €100 million would be available immediately for investment, although the transaction remains subject to closing conditions.

The club has not provided a detailed breakdown of the purchase price, the final allocation of the new capital or the precise ownership percentages following each stage of the transaction.

The announced €1.25 billion enterprise valuation covers the club's broader asset base, including its men's and women's teams, the existing Mestalla stadium and the Nou Mestalla development.

Enterprise value should not be confused with the value of the club's equity, meaning the 42% stake cannot be valued simply by multiplying the announced enterprise valuation by the ownership percentage.

Nou Mestalla Central to Investment Strategy

The proposed investment comes as Valencia approaches one of the most significant infrastructure developments in its history.

The club is preparing to move from its existing 49,000-capacity Mestalla stadium to the new Nou Mestalla, which is planned to accommodate more than 70,000 spectators.

The stadium project forms a central part of the investment rationale, providing Valencia with an opportunity to expand its matchday operations and develop new commercial activities.

A larger stadium could increase the club's capacity for ticketing, premium hospitality, corporate events and other stadium-related revenue, subject to demand and the final operating model.

The project also carries significance for Valencia as a city. Spain will co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, and the new venue is being positioned as a major sports infrastructure asset for the region.

KKR Co-Founders and Denver Broncos Investors Back Consortium

Pitchwise Holdings brings together private family offices and institutional investors with experience across sports, private equity and other industries.

Among the investors backing the consortium are George Roberts and Henry Kravis, co-founders and co-executive chairmen of global investment firm KKR.

The consortium also includes Penner Sports Group, a Denver-based family investment business established by Greg and Carrie Penner in 2022.

Penner Sports Group's portfolio includes the Denver Broncos of the National Football League and a minority investment in Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies.

Its involvement adds experience from the North American professional sports ownership market to the Valencia investment group.

Ann Rodriguez and Corey Woolfolk to Lead Pitchwise Involvement

The consortium is led by Ann Rodriguez and Corey Woolfolk, who will work alongside Kiat Lim within Valencia's new ownership structure.

Rodriguez has more than 25 years of experience in the sports industry, including senior roles connected to Atlanta United, San Jose Earthquakes, the WNBA and the organising committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Her background includes commercial growth and organisational development across major sporting properties.

Woolfolk combines experience as a former professional footballer in the United States with a career spanning venture capital, biotechnology and football investment.

He has also been involved in investments in football clubs across Europe and South America.

Together, the two executives bring a combination of sports operations and investment experience to Pitchwise's proposed role at Valencia.

Their involvement will form part of a new ownership arrangement in which Meriton remains the controlling shareholder.

Valencia Targets European Competitiveness and Commercial Growth

Valencia's ownership announcement outlines ambitions extending beyond the completion of Nou Mestalla.

Kiat Lim identified the development of the men's and women's teams, the academy and the new stadium as priorities for the next stage of the club's development.

The stated objective is to establish Valencia as a club capable of competing regularly in European competitions while continuing to develop players through its academy.

Kiat Lim, President of Valencia CF, said:

"The Pitchwise team was the only one with whom I really wanted to explore a partnership."

Lim highlighted the consortium's experience in long-term investment and sports management as important factors behind the agreement.
