FC Bayern Munich has launched FC Bayern Fan AI-DEATION, a fan-led artificial intelligence innovation challenge developed with Google Gemini and UnternehmerTUM, inviting supporters to propose new applications of AI across the club's digital services, stadium operations and commercial activities.
The initiative will focus on five principal areas: digital fan experience, content and storytelling, stadium experience, merchandising and ticketing. Participants can submit proposals individually or in teams of up to three people until November 16, 2026.
Selected applicants will have the opportunity to develop their concepts with experts from FC Bayern and Google before presenting them at a co-creation event at the Allianz Arena in February 2027.
The programme extends Bayern's existing relationship with Google, which serves as the club's Official Consumer AI Partner, into a structured process for collecting and evaluating ideas from supporters.
Bayern Opens AI Development Process to Supporters FC Bayern
The Fan AI-DEATION initiative is designed to identify practical applications of artificial intelligence that could improve how supporters interact with FC Bayern, both digitally and at the stadium.
Unlike programmes restricted to technology startups or established software developers, the challenge is open to individuals who have not yet built a working product.
Applicants can submit an initial concept or a more developed prototype, with Google Gemini available to help structure, describe and visualise proposals without requiring programming experience.
FC Bayern will assess submissions based on their relevance to the club and its supporters, innovation and creativity, feasibility, potential benefits and the quality of the presentation.
The format gives Bayern access to ideas originating directly from its supporter community while providing a process for evaluating their practical relevance to club operations.
Five Areas Target Fan Experience and Commercial Operations
The programme identifies five areas in which Bayern sees potential applications for AI.
Digital Fan Experience covers improvements to the club's mobile application, email communications and online communities. Proposed solutions could include more personalised interactions or new ways of connecting supporters with the club.
Content and Storytelling focuses on AI-supported content formats, personalisation and new approaches to digital communication.
Stadium Experience invites concepts for the Allianz Arena, including second-screen applications, digital services and operational improvements.
Merchandising covers personalised products, inventory planning and the integration of physical and digital retail channels.
Ticketing focuses on the purchasing process, customer journeys and the management of stadium occupancy.
Bayern will also consider proposals outside these categories if they demonstrate a relevant application for the club.
The areas reflect several functions in which football organisations increasingly use customer data and digital infrastructure to manage supporter relationships and commercial activity.
However, the programme is currently an ideas competition. Bayern has not announced that any of the proposed AI applications will be implemented.
Google Gemini Provides Technology Support
Google is participating through its existing role as FC Bayern's Official Consumer AI Partner.
Its Gemini technology will be available to applicants during the development process, helping participants turn initial concepts into more structured proposals.
Selected candidates will subsequently discuss their ideas with FC Bayern and Google experts during digital presentations.
The finalists will receive additional support in preparing their concepts for the final stage at the Allianz Arena.
The collaboration gives Google an opportunity to demonstrate consumer AI applications within a professional football environment, while Bayern gains access to technology and expertise that can support the evaluation of supporter-generated ideas.
The initiative is explicitly identified as a paid advertising partnership, reflecting its connection to the club's commercial relationship with Google.
UnternehmerTUM Supports Innovation Programme
The challenge also involves UnternehmerTUM, the entrepreneurship and innovation centre associated with the Technical University of Munich.
Its participation provides an additional connection to the technology and startup ecosystem, complementing Google's AI capabilities and Bayern's operational knowledge.
The programme is structured around a series of stages, beginning with the submission of ideas and followed by an internal selection process.
Shortlisted applicants will participate in digital pitches before finalists are invited to the Allianz Arena.
The final event will combine a Bundesliga matchday experience with a co-creation workshop, during which participants will refine their proposals alongside club employees and other experts.
Final presentations will take place before a jury, which will select the winning individual or team.
Allianz Arena to Host Final Co-Creation Event
The final stage is scheduled for February 2027, around Bayern's home fixture on the 20th Bundesliga matchday.
Finalists will be invited to attend the match before participating in a workshop at the Allianz Arena, where they will develop their ideas and prepare presentations.
The club will cover travel and accommodation costs for invited participants, who will also receive an FC Bayern shirt.
The winning individual or team will receive VIP tickets for a Bayern Champions League home match, accommodation, an exclusive stadium tour and a Google Pixel smartphone for each eligible winner.
The club's detailed programme identifies the smartphone as the Google Pixel 11.
Following the competition, Bayern intends to assess the winning proposal for potential implementation.
