Lukas Podolski, 2014 FIFA World Cup winner and forward for Górnik Zabrze, has officially launched the first Polish location of his fast-growing kebab restaurant chain, starting in the city where he currently plays. The expansion into the Polish market marks a strategic step in Podolski’s off-pitch business career, blending his personal brand with a food concept that has already proven successful in Germany.
First Store in Poland Opened in Zabrze
The launch of the Zabrze restaurant — part of a brand that now includes approximately 60 locations across Europe — attracted large crowds and long queues, showing clear demand. The new outlet replicates the format and design of the original German locations, providing Turkish-style döner kebabs in a familiar fast-casual setup.
While media outlets covered the event’s scale and fan turnout, Podolski kept his message personal. In a short statement shared on his social media, the former German international wrote:
“Thank you for coming to the opening of our first store in Poland! Thanks for your support!”
Not Just a Name on the Wall Lukas Podolski Kebab Zabrze
In an exclusive interview conducted by Football Business Journal in 2024, Lukas Podolski shared insights into how the idea was born and the hands-on role he plays in managing the business:
“Sometimes people think that it's just Podolski's name on the wall... but it’s my daily job aside from soccer to bring everything together and make it work well. Without passion, hunger, and commitment, it’s hard to succeed and maintain a high standard.”
The concept originated in Cologne, where Podolski first teamed up with a neighbor who owned a Turkish restaurant. What started as a local idea has since scaled into a multi-location operation that reflects the player’s ethnic ties, lifestyle, and community roots.
Scalable Food Concept with a Football Identity
The brand continues to grow across Europe by combining authentic cuisine, consistent branding, and a loyal fan base.
With the new Zabrze location, Podolski has clearly signaled his interest in deepening his business footprint in Poland, a country closely tied to his heritage and current playing career. The move could pave the way for more restaurant openings across major Polish cities, especially as he nears the end of his contract with Górnik Zabrze and continues discussions around potentially acquiring stakes in the club.
