Wales football legend Gareth Bale has confirmed that the consortium he is leading has submitted a revised offer to acquire Cardiff City FC, marking a renewed push to take control of the club he has long been linked with. The updated proposal, described by Bale as “a brand new offer,” follows initial discussions that began earlier this year.
“We think it's a great offer, one that we're very happy with,” Bale told Front Office Sports Today, as reported by the BBC. “We think it's very fair, if not more than fair, and it's something we hope the current owners will take serious.”
The latest bid comes after earlier reports in June suggested a £40 million offer had already been submitted to Vincent Tan, the club’s long-time owner and Malaysian businessman, who has invested over £200 million into Cardiff since acquiring it in 2010.
A Renewed Vision for Cardiff City Gareth Bale Cardiff City
Bale, who won 111 caps for Wales and scored 41 international goals, has made it clear that his ambition is to rebuild Cardiff into a Premier League club. He reiterated that acquiring the club would be “a dream come true” and expressed his desire to deliver on the club’s potential.
“We’d love them to accept so we can take full control and get on with what we want to do and create Cardiff into a club that we know it can be,” Bale added.
While the full details of the revised offer remain undisclosed, Bale’s remarks indicate that the consortium has refined its proposal to make it more appealing to Tan and the club’s board.
Current Ownership Remains Silent
As of now, Cardiff City FC has not issued a public response to the renewed approach. The club finished bottom of the Championship last season, and is preparing for its first campaign in League One since 2002/03. Former Manchester City development coach Brian Barry-Murphy has recently taken over as manager.
According to the BBC, Tan has shown little public interest in selling the club, despite Cardiff's ongoing decline in recent years and growing supporter frustration. The club has seen several managerial changes and fluctuating performances since its Premier League stint in the early 2010s.
A Return to Roots
Bale’s connection to Cardiff is both personal and symbolic. Born in Wales, he had been linked with a move to the club as a player before ultimately signing with Los Angeles FC in 2022. He later helped LAFC win the MLS Cup, scoring a dramatic equaliser in the final before retiring in early 2023.
Since retiring, Bale has shifted focus toward sports investment, golf ventures, and ambassadorial roles, but acquiring Cardiff City would mark a major step into football club ownership.
