Borussia Dortmund has officially unveiled its latest international youth development initiative with the launch of the BVB International Academy Hungary in Budapest. The project, which officially began on July 1, 2025, is a result of a strategic partnership with Kelen SC, one of the most respected football clubs in the Hungarian capital.

A New Chapter for Youth Football in Budapest

The partnership marks a significant step in Borussia Dortmund’s international expansion of its youth academy network. It also represents the fusion of Kelen SC and Dortmund’s previous local affiliate, UDSÉ, resulting in an increase in the number of youth players under the BVB banner in Hungary from 150 to approximately 350.

All youth teams previously under Kelen SC will now compete in Borussia Dortmund’s iconic black and yellow colors, symbolizing the club’s deeper integration into Hungary’s grassroots football landscape.

Infrastructure and Long-Term Vision BVB Hungary

The Kelen SC campus — featuring two artificial pitches and one natural grass field — will be fully rebranded in BVB’s visual identity. The facility offers state-of-the-art conditions for youth training and development and will serve as a regional hub for Borussia Dortmund’s activities in Eastern Europe.

Former BVB player and coach Theo Schneider will oversee the program as the on-site coordinator, ensuring alignment between Dortmund’s high-performance training standards and local implementation.

Strengthening the Central and Eastern European Network

The partnership agreement is initially set for five years, through June 30, 2030. A key component of the program is the deep collaboration between Borussia Dortmund’s youth performance center (Nachwuchsleistungszentrum, or NLZ) and its Eastern European affiliates — including the Łukasz Piszczek BVB Academy in Poland and the Willy Brandt School in Warsaw.

As part of this strategic framework, multiple team visits to Dortmund are planned for the Hungarian youth players, aimed at strengthening ties and immersing the next generation of footballers in the club’s training culture and philosophy.

A Milestone for BVB’s Global Youth Development

The launch of the BVB International Academy Hungary reflects Borussia Dortmund’s commitment to building a robust international youth development system that extends beyond Germany’s borders. It continues a trend of targeted investment in regions with rich football potential and strong alignment with the club’s values.

With over 350 young athletes now training under the BVB brand in Hungary, the initiative not only deepens Borussia Dortmund’s footprint in Europe but also reinforces its role as a global leader in talent development.
