LASK has entered into a long-term strategic partnership with AFC Ajax, integrating the Austrian club into Ajax’s international partner network and aligning its development model with one of Europe’s most established academies.
The agreement centres on knowledge exchange, player development and scouting collaboration, positioning the partnership as both a sporting and organisational growth platform.
Integration Into Ajax’s Global Development Network Ajax
With the partnership, LASK becomes part of Ajax’s expanding international club network, which includes partners across Europe, Latin America and Asia.
This structure enables participating clubs to share methodologies, data and expertise across multiple markets, creating a more interconnected approach to talent development and identification.
For Ajax, the addition of LASK strengthens its presence in Central Europe, a region with growing relevance for talent scouting.
Knowledge Transfer as Core Component
A key pillar of the agreement is the exchange of know-how in training methodology, player development and performance structures. Ajax’s academy is widely regarded as one of the most influential development systems in world football, having produced multiple generations of elite players.
Through the partnership, LASK aims to integrate elements of this model into its own system, particularly within its academy and second team setup at the voestalpine Performance Academy. The focus is on maximising existing infrastructure while improving pathways for young players.
Expanding Scouting Through Multi-Club Collaboration
The partnership also extends into scouting, where LASK will benefit from access to Ajax’s broader network of partner clubs. This includes organisations in markets such as Mexico, Spain, Italy and Japan, creating opportunities for shared insights and broader talent identification.
One of the early examples of the partnership in practice has been the participation of LASK academy players in the Future Cup in Amsterdam.
Players from partner clubs were selected to form a combined “Future United” team, competing against top academy sides including Ajax, Paris Saint-Germain and Sporting CP.
Beyond Football Operations: Organisational Collaboration
The partnership also includes cooperation in organisational and commercial areas. Both clubs are exploring collaboration in fields such as hospitality and matchday experience, reflecting a broader understanding that club development extends beyond sporting performance.
Executive Comments
Marijn Beuker, Director of Football at Ajax, emphasised the strategic value of the partnership:
“With LASK, we see a partner committed to growth, innovation and creating optimal conditions for player development. Their position in Central Europe makes this collaboration particularly valuable for talent identification.”
Siegmund Gruber, CEO of LASK, described the agreement as a milestone for the club:
“The exchange of knowledge with a club like Ajax gives us the opportunity to further develop our sporting strategy and create the best possible environment for our players and staff.”
