AC Milan and Inter Milan have unveiled plans for Generali Stadium, their proposed new 71,500-seat home in Milan, alongside a major naming rights agreement with Italian insurance group Generali.
The stadium, designed by Foster + Partners and MANICA, is scheduled to begin construction in 2028, with the first match targeted for the 2031/32 season, subject to regulatory approvals.
The project is backed by the clubs' respective owners, RedBird Capital Partners and Oaktree, and forms part of a wider 281,000-square-metre redevelopment of the San Siro area.
Generali Secures Stadium Naming Rights and Club Partnerships AC Milan
Generali will hold the naming rights to the new stadium and become an Official Insurance Partner of both AC Milan and Inter Milan.
The agreement establishes the Italian insurance and asset management group as a commercial partner of both clubs ahead of the venue's planned opening.
The clubs describe the Generali agreement as one of the largest stadium naming rights deals in global sport.
Foster + Partners and MANICA Design New Stadium
The architectural project is led by Foster + Partners and MANICA, bringing together Norman Foster and sports venue architect David Manica.
Generali Stadium will feature approximately 71,500 seats, arranged across two tiers in a continuous 360-degree seating bowl.
At either end of the pitch, steep single-tier stands inspired by San Siro's traditional Curvas will feature seating inclinations of up to 37 degrees, designed to bring supporters closer to the playing surface.
The stadium will also include modern hospitality areas, improved accessibility and a range of seating categories.
Its exterior design features an exposed concrete X-frame structure supporting a double-curved roof, with photovoltaic technology, natural ventilation and acoustic optimisation incorporated into the plans.
Stadium Forms Part of 281,000-Square-Metre Regeneration Project
The development extends beyond the stadium itself, covering approximately 281,000 square metres in the surrounding San Siro district.
Plans include public spaces, green areas, retail facilities and leisure destinations intended to operate throughout the year.
The wider development is designed to accommodate sporting, cultural and entertainment activities, creating additional uses for the site outside AC Milan and Inter matchdays.
The project follows an agreement reached between the clubs and the City of Milan in 2025, which established the basis for the redevelopment.
RedBird and Oaktree Target 2031/32 Opening
The stadium project is being developed under the ownership of RedBird Capital Partners at AC Milan and Oaktree, part of Brookfield's credit platform, at Inter Milan.
The new venue is intended to provide both clubs with updated matchday infrastructure, including expanded premium hospitality opportunities and modern commercial facilities.
Construction is expected to begin in 2028, with the inaugural match targeted for the 2031/32 football season.
