Olympique de Marseille has launched “OM District”, a virtual experience built on Roblox, marking the club’s entry into immersive digital environments and positioning it among early adopters of gaming-based fan engagement in French football.
Building a Digital Environment Around Club Identity Olympique de Marseille
OM District is structured as a virtual representation of Marseille, anchored around the Vieux-Port and incorporating key landmarks such as the Orange Vélodrome, Notre-Dame de la Garde and the Mucem. The environment serves both as a digital showcase of the city and as a branded space for fan interaction.
Within this setting, the club has integrated a series of interactive elements designed to drive engagement. These include gameplay formats, virtual merchandise and social features that allow users to create and share content within the platform.
Gamification, Virtual Merchandise and UGC Integration
The experience includes multiple layers of interaction. A parkour-style mini-game introduces competitive mechanics through leaderboards, while a virtual showroom allows users to equip avatars with club-branded items and collect digital assets.
A key component is the integration of user-generated content (UGC), where virtual accessories can be earned or purchased and used across the broader Roblox ecosystem. This extends the club’s visibility beyond the initial experience, effectively turning users into mobile brand touchpoints.
The combination of gameplay, customisation and UGC aligns with platform-native behaviours, particularly among younger audiences.
Entering Platform-Based Fan Ecosystems
Roblox reports more than 140 million daily active users, making it one of the largest social gaming platforms globally. For football clubs, entry into such environments provides access to audiences that are less engaged with traditional broadcast and social channels.
