Olympique de Marseille has entered into a partnership with Theta EdgeCloud to develop an AI-powered interactive mascot that will be available through the club’s official website and mobile application from the start of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season. The initiative is part of the club’s plans to expand its digital infrastructure and introduce new tools for supporter interaction.
AI Mascot Capabilities Olympique de Marseille Theta EdgeCloud
The AI mascot will respond to fan queries in natural language, providing information on matchday team line-ups, live statistics, ticketing details, and travel directions to the Orange Vélodrome. It will also deliver updates on player statistics, injury reports, club news, and upcoming fixtures. The system is based on Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology, which combines Olympique de Marseille and Ligue 1 data with real-time match information to ensure accurate and current responses.
Technical Infrastructure
The service will operate on Theta EdgeCloud’s decentralised GPU network of more than 30,000 community-operated nodes, offering a total computing capacity of over 80 petaflops. This architecture is designed to maintain stable performance even during peak demand periods, such as matchdays. In addition to essential match and team information, the mascot will also provide details on stadium parking and access, historical performance records, interactive features such as quizzes and fan surveys, as well as information on club merchandise and promotional offers.
Future Development
Future plans include expanding the mascot’s capabilities to handle ticket purchase assistance, integration with customer service, provision of in-stadium location-based services, support for fantasy league participation, and predictive match analysis.
