The Nou Mestalla project has reached a new visible stage of development with the arrival of the first 38-metre structural pillars that will support the stadium’s massive roof system. Valencia CF confirmed that the components — each weighing more than 30 tonnes — have begun arriving at the construction site following a complex multi-day transport operation from northern Spain.

The delivery marks a significant step in the long-delayed stadium project, which is now progressing toward its targeted opening in 2027.

Major Structural Components Begin to Define the Stadium’s Framework

The pillars, produced at the Horta Coslada plant in Arteixo (Galicia), form the main columns of the future stadium. Their installation initiates the structural phase of the roof build, which will eventually total 4,800 tonnes of weight.

Transporting the elements requires specialised convoys. Trucks with heavy-load certification take between two and four days to complete the 900-kilometre journey to Valencia, travelling with pilot-car escorts due to the size and weight of the components.

The fabrication is being carried out by a leading Spanish engineering and manufacturing firm under the technical direction of FCC Construcción, the primary contractor responsible for advancing Nou Mestalla.

Foundation Plates Installed as Preparatory Work Accelerates Nou Mestalla

Ahead of the arrival of the pillars, crews began installing foundation plates on November 12 — steel components of up to seven tonnes and two metres in length. These plates serve as ground anchor points for the large columns and form the structural base for the entire roof system.

Installation began in the north section of the stadium bowl and will continue progressively around the perimeter as additional components arrive.

Next Steps: Fifty Steel Columns, Stair Towers and the Structural Roof Ring

With the first pillars now onsite, construction activity will intensify in the coming weeks. Valencia CF anticipates a continuous flow of structural pieces, including:

• the full set of 50 S355 steel pillars,

• stair towers,

• and the structural ring that will complete the roof’s perimeter.

The roof installation phase is one of the most technically demanding elements of the project and will serve as the clearest indicator of progress to date, giving fans and the city a tangible sense of the stadium’s final scale.
