Portuguese football club Estrela da Amadora has completed the sale of a 90% majority stake in its SAD to an international consortium led by ADvantage and LEAD, with the backing of KI Group and a group of strategic investors that includes several of European football's most recognisable players.

Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels, Yann Sommer and Lucas Hernández are among the football-linked investors participating in the new ownership structure, according to the club.

The transaction also brings a change in leadership. Johannes Mösmang, who spent a decade working at FC Bayern Munich, has been appointed president of CFEA – Club Football Estrela, SAD, replacing Paulo Lopo.

International Consortium Acquires 90% of Estrela SAD Estrela

The completed transaction gives the new investor group control of 90% of the share capital of the company operating Estrela da Amadora's professional football business.

ADvantage and LEAD are leading the consortium, supported by KI Group, while the wider shareholder structure brings together investors with backgrounds in sport, investment and technology. The involvement of Müller, Hummels, Sommer and Hernández adds a high-profile football component to the ownership group.

Former Bayern Executive Takes Presidency

Mösmang will lead the next phase of Estrela's development.

Before joining the Portuguese club, he spent approximately 10 years at FC Bayern Munich, working within the German club's professional players department and closely with executives, coaches and players.

His appointment gives the new ownership structure an executive with direct experience inside one of Europe's largest football organisations. Estrela said the new management intends to focus investment and development across several areas, including people, infrastructure, youth development, innovation and institutional growth.

The stated objective is to build a more competitive organisation while maintaining the club's identity and relationship with Amadora.

Technology and AI Included in Development Plans

Technology will form another part of the new ownership strategy.

KI Group, which Estrela describes as having an established presence in Portugal and experience developing technology and artificial intelligence solutions, will act as a strategic partner in the club's transformation.

The announcement points to investment, technology and digital transformation as areas where Estrela expects to benefit from the international expertise of its new shareholders and partners.

Specific technology projects or investment commitments have not yet been disclosed. The strategy therefore remains broad at this stage, but signals that the consortium sees organisational and digital development alongside sporting performance as part of the investment case.

Stadium Ownership Highlighted as Strategic Asset

One detail specifically highlighted by Mösmang is Estrela's ownership of its stadium.

For football investors, control of stadium infrastructure can materially influence the economics of a club by creating greater flexibility around matchday operations, hospitality, commercial activity and future development.

Estrela did not announce any specific redevelopment programme as part of the transaction, but infrastructure is listed among the priorities of the new administration.
