Lukas Podolski has officially become the majority owner of Górnik Zabrze after LP Holding GmbH acquired more than one million shares in the club, representing 86% ownership.

The transaction marks one of the most significant ownership changes in modern Polish football and formally transitions control of Górnik Zabrze away from municipal leadership toward a private ownership structure led by one of the club’s most recognisable modern figures.

The decision followed approval from the Zabrze City Council on May 20 during an extraordinary session, where all present councillors voted in favour of the sale.

From Emotional Connection to Ownership Lukas Podolski

The takeover also carries additional symbolic weight considering comments Lukas Podolski made during an exclusive 2024 interview with Football Business Journal.

At the time, Podolski explained that his decision to join Górnik Zabrze as a player was driven primarily by emotional attachment rather than financial or career considerations.

“It's the love for Górnik Zabrze. I was born near the stadium, I lived just five minutes away from it. My family still lives there, and I've always dreamed of returning to Górnik.”

He also stressed that his relationship with the club extended far beyond football itself.

“My connection with the club goes beyond my professional career.”

Looking at those comments today, Podolski becoming the club’s majority owner feels like a natural next step and the continuation of a long-term personal commitment to Górnik Zabrze.

Private Ownership Era Begins at Górnik Zabrze

For Górnik Zabrze, the ownership change could create opportunities to modernise revenue structures, strengthen sponsorship positioning and accelerate strategic projects connected to infrastructure, branding and sporting competitiveness.

At the same time, the transaction places significant expectations on Podolski and LP Holding GmbH to stabilise and develop one of Poland’s most historically important football institutions.
