Karlsruher SC (KSC) has announced the start of construction on a new professional training pitch on the site of the former Germania grounds, marking a key milestone in the club’s long-term “Vision Wildpark” infrastructure plan. The new facility, located next to the BBBank Wildpark Stadium, is designed to modernize the club’s training environment and strengthen its long-term sporting and operational foundations.
A Major Step in KSC’s Infrastructure Development Karlsruher SC
The new training ground represents one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the club’s history, with a project budget of approximately €3 million. According to Karlsruher SC, the development will enhance training conditions and consolidate its professional operations at a single, high-performance campus.
Construction preparations began in November with the demolition of existing structures and removal of asphalt layers. The official construction phase is scheduled to start in February 2026, with completion expected in July and official opening planned for September 2026.
Technical Specifications and Design Features
The new pitch will have a total area of 113 x 73 meters, with the marked playing surface measuring 105 x 68 meters, meeting international standards. A hybrid turf system will be installed to ensure optimal year-round performance and durability.
Additional features include:
A team and spectator zone,
Privacy fencing and perimeter protection,
A 200-lux floodlight system for evening training,
An additional soccer court for small-group drills, and
A maintenance facility for the club’s groundskeeping operations.
The planning and construction management are being overseen by the engineering firm Rainer Ernst, which has previously worked on several sports infrastructure projects in Germany.
Statements from Club Leadership
KSC Managing Director Michael Becker emphasized the strategic importance of the project for the club’s long-term development:
“The new professional training pitch is essential for our competitiveness and continued progress,” Becker said. “At around €3 million, this is the largest single investment within our Vision Wildpark initiative to date. Thanks to the club’s sporting and financial growth in recent years, we can now realize this long-planned project and significantly improve conditions for our players and coaching staff.”
Project manager Fabian Rimoldi added that the facility is a key component of KSC’s plan to create an integrated and sustainable sports complex that benefits both professionals and youth development programs.
Vision Wildpark: A Comprehensive Infrastructure Program
The Vision Wildpark initiative, launched several years ago, outlines the club’s multi-phase infrastructure strategy aimed at transforming the BBBank Wildpark area into a state-of-the-art sports and community hub.
Completed projects under the initiative include:
Two artificial turf pitches,
The Badenia Stadium,
A natural grass pitch with an additional soccer court and secondary field.
Looking ahead, the club plans to develop a Professional and Youth Performance Center, a club office and physiotherapy complex, a fan meeting space, and another natural grass field as part of its medium-term objectives.
