Giannis Antetokounmpo, an NBA player and global sports figure, has joined the ownership group of Chelsea FC Women, partnering with technology entrepreneur and investor Alexis Ohanian Sr. in a move that further highlights the growing investment momentum in elite women’s football.

The announcement was made publicly by Antetokounmpo, who described the decision as a long-term commitment to the growth, ambition and global impact of women’s sport. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed.

Ownership Expansion Within BlueCo Structure Giannis Antetokounmpo

Antetokounmpo and Ohanian join Chelsea FC Women’s existing ownership structure led by Todd Boehly and BlueCo, the U.S.-based investment group that acquired Chelsea FC in 2022 and formally integrated the women’s team into its ownership portfolio in 2024.

The move strengthens Chelsea FC Women’s positioning as a standalone strategic asset within the broader Chelsea ecosystem, rather than a supplementary extension of the men’s team.

Chelsea FC Women as a Premium Women’s Sports Asset

Chelsea FC Women compete in the Women's Super League, the top tier of women’s football in England, and are widely regarded as one of the most successful and commercially advanced women’s clubs globally.

The club is currently valued at an estimated $250 million, placing it among the most valuable women’s sports teams worldwide. On the pitch, Chelsea FC Women sit third in the WSL table and are pursuing a seventh consecutive league title, underlining sustained sporting dominance alongside commercial growth.
