FC Schalke 04 has rolled out a new official mobile application as part of a wider push to consolidate digital services, member communication and matchday operations into a single platform. The app was developed in collaboration with 9elements and replaces a fragmented digital setup with a unified, mobile-first environment.
The launch comes at a point where Schalke’s more than 204,000 members represent the club’s most stable and strategically important stakeholder group, with the app designed to function as a digital extension of membership rather than a standalone media product.
Membership-Centred Digital Architecture FC Schalke 04
At the core of the app is Vereinsheim, a personalised member area that allows users to customise their home feed and access exclusive club content. Digital membership cards, personal data management and service tools are integrated directly into the platform, reducing reliance on separate systems and manual processes.
Matchday and Stadium Functions in One Interface
The app also brings together essential matchday services. Logged-in users can access mobile tickets, manage Knappenkarte (a payment card used at the VELTINS-Arena for buying food, drinks, and merchandise) balances and retrieve practical information related to parking, carpooling and in-stadium vendors at the VELTINS-Arena.
This integration turns the app into a functional matchday tool, allowing the club to communicate directly with fans before, during and after games through a controlled digital channel.
Content, Interaction and Accessibility
Beyond service functions, the app offers a redesigned news feed in a story-based format, an upgraded match centre with live statistics and enhanced tickers, and squad overviews covering the men’s first team, women’s team and academy sides.
Interactive elements such as polls, surveys and prediction games are embedded to encourage regular usage. Users can also save content for offline reading. Accessibility features, including adjustable font sizes and a read-aloud function, are implemented across the app to ensure broad usability.
Executive Comment
Matthias Tillmann, CEO of FC Schalke 04, said:
“Our more than 204,000 members form the heart of FC Schalke 04. With this new app, we want to show them greater appreciation and create a digital home that combines information, closeness and exclusive added value. When developing new features, we deliberately incorporated many ideas and requests raised during previous members’ meetings.”
