FC Midtjylland football director Jacob Larsen has outlined the club’s current sporting and organisational priorities, stressing continuity in squad planning, youth development and long-term decision-making as the club enters a decisive phase of the 2025/26 season.
Larsen’s comments were published in an interview published by the club and come as FC Midtjylland enters a decisive phase of the 2025/26 season, combining domestic competition in the 3F Superliga, a Danish Cup semi-final and continued European involvement.
Squad Model Built on Youth and Experience FC Midtjylland
According to Jacob Larsen, FC Midtjylland continues to operate with one of the youngest squads across both the Danish league and the Europa League, with an average age below 25. The club’s approach combines experienced senior players with younger profiles still early in their professional careers.
Rather than frequent structural changes, Larsen indicated that the club intends to maintain its existing squad model—often described internally as a balance between elite experience and talent development—while making selective adjustments when required.
Individual Development as a Competitive Requirement
Jacob Larsen linked the club’s playing style directly to its development philosophy, noting that FC Midtjylland’s tactical approach demands strong individual capacity across large areas of the pitch. He highlighted that this is especially relevant in European competition, where the pace and physical demands increase against clubs from larger leagues.
Rather than relying solely on technical training, Larsen emphasised the importance of close daily interaction between staff and players, supported by a coaching structure focused on communication and continuity.
Governance and Decision-Making Structure
Beyond the first team, Jacob Larsen pointed to FC Midtjylland’s internal decision-making structure as a key stabilising factor. Sporting decisions are made collectively by a group of long-serving executives and technical leaders rather than a single authority figure.
This multi-layered decision process, he said, allows for diversity of opinion while preserving a consistent club identity—an approach that has underpinned Midtjylland’s recruitment strategy over multiple seasons.
Infrastructure as a Marginal Gains Tool
The club’s training base at Dream99 and access to facilities such as Ikast Stadome were also referenced as part of Midtjylland’s long-term performance environment. Larsen described the infrastructure not as a transformational factor on its own, but as a contributor to incremental advantages in player preparation, recovery and development.
Such investments align with the club’s broader ownership strategy, which has prioritised facilities and support systems alongside sporting operations.
Transfer Window and Contract Stability
With the January transfer window open, Larsen stated that the club’s priority is to maintain squad stability through the remainder of the season. He noted that FC Midtjylland places strong emphasis on contractual clarity and long-term planning, particularly during periods when external interest in players increases.
This approach reflects a wider trend among development-focused clubs seeking to avoid short-term disruption while maximising performance during key competitive phases.
Looking Beyond the Current Season
Despite competing on multiple fronts, Larsen underlined that planning already extends beyond the current campaign. Squad composition, academy progression and broader organisational initiatives are being evaluated with a time horizon of six to twelve months or more.
From a strategic standpoint, the comments reinforce FC Midtjylland’s positioning as a club focused on sustainability and repeatable processes rather than cyclical peaks.
As Larsen summarised, the club does not consider itself to have reached its “peak” yet—viewing current results as part of an ongoing development trajectory rather than an endpoint.
