FC Barcelona has signed a strategic partnership with PreZero Iberia to overhaul waste management at Spotify Camp Nou and the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, with both facilities targeting Zero Waste certification next season.

Under the agreement, the environmental services company becomes FC Barcelona’s Official Espai Barça Waste Management Partner, adding another commercial partner to the ecosystem being built around the club’s stadium redevelopment.

PreZero will manage waste generated across both sites and introduce circular-economy systems designed to divert more than 90% of waste from landfill.

More Than 90% of Waste Targeted for Recovery Barcelona

The project is structured around obtaining the AENOR-certified Zero Waste label, which requires more than 90% of waste generated at the facilities to be recovered and given a second use instead of being sent to landfill.

PreZero will first analyse waste flows across Spotify Camp Nou and Barcelona’s training complex before introducing a new selective collection system and optimising separation at source.

New containers and bins will be installed across the facilities, supported by awareness campaigns targeting supporters, club members and employees.

The scale of Spotify Camp Nou makes the project particularly relevant to Barcelona’s sustainability strategy. Major football venues generate concentrated waste volumes around matchdays, making collection, separation and recovery systems an operational component of stadium management as well as an environmental target.

PreZero Joins Espai Barça Sponsorship Ecosystem

The agreement is also a commercial partnership.

PreZero becomes part of the Espai Barça sponsorship programme, giving the company an official association with one of European football’s largest infrastructure projects while simultaneously providing an operational service to the club.

That structure makes the partnership different from a conventional branding-led sponsorship. PreZero’s commercial rights are linked directly to its role in managing waste and implementing circular-economy infrastructure across Barcelona’s stadium and training facilities.

For FC Barcelona, it adds another specialist company to the commercial model surrounding Espai Barça, with partners connected to specific elements of the redeveloped venue and its operations.

Sustainability Built Into Camp Nou Redevelopment

Waste management forms part of a broader environmental programme around the new Spotify Camp Nou.

Barcelona has identified sustainability as one of the three pillars of its strategic plan and says the redevelopment incorporates measures covering renewable energy, water reuse, resource efficiency and the circular economy.

Jordi Portabella, director of FC Barcelona’s Sustainability Area, said the objective is to integrate those principles into the club’s daily operations.

“Sustainability is one of the three cornerstones of FC Barcelona’s strategic plan and a commitment that we incorporate across all our activities and projects.”

Portabella said the PreZero agreement is intended to help the club secure Zero Waste certification for its facilities next season.

Large-Scale Sports Case

For PreZero, the agreement provides a high-profile environment in which to apply its waste-management systems across both a major stadium and an elite training complex.

Pablo Caballero, Industrial Business Director at PreZero, said the company intends to position Spotify Camp Nou as an international reference point for circular-economy practices.

The involvement of supporters will also form part of the operating model. Effective separation at source will depend partly on how waste is disposed of throughout the stadium, making fan behaviour an element of the certification process.

The partnership therefore combines sponsorship, stadium operations and sustainability infrastructure within the wider Espai Barça project.

If Barcelona and PreZero achieve the certification target, more than 90% of waste generated across Spotify Camp Nou and the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper would be diverted from landfill, turning a commercial partnership into a measurable operational component of the club’s stadium redevelopment.
