Dundalk FC has confirmed a change in club ownership and leadership, with Chris Clinton acquiring a 65% shareholding previously held by former director John Temple. Following the acquisition, Clinton will assume the role of club chairperson with immediate effect and will oversee the formation of a new management board in the coming days.
The announcement marks a significant step for the League of Ireland Premier Division club as it prepares for its centenary season in 2026, following promotion earlier this year.
Ownership Transition and Strategic Priorities
Clinton, who now holds a majority stake in the club, outlined his immediate objectives, emphasizing the need to strengthen Dundalk FC’s operational structure both on and off the pitch.
“I am delighted to take control of Dundalk FC and look forward to progressing the club onto solid foundations, on and off the field,” said Clinton. “Having won promotion to the Premier Division and secured first-team manager Ciarán Kilduff on a two-year deal, we have already taken steps to stabilise our coaching setup.”
The new chairperson added that his initial focus will be on assembling a management board that reflects the club’s values and community identity, as well as attracting new investment and commercial partnerships to improve financial stability and ensure long-term sustainability.
Infrastructure and Licensing Developments Dundalk FC
Dundalk FC is currently working with the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) to complete its Premier Division licensing process. Clinton confirmed progress on key infrastructure upgrades at Oriel Park, including a new playing surface and improved floodlighting, both of which are expected to move into the procurement stage in the coming days.
“We are making progress on the new pitch and floodlights at Oriel Park,” he said. “Orders for materials are expected to be placed shortly.”
These developments form part of a wider plan to enhance the matchday experience and prepare Oriel Park for the club’s upcoming centenary season.
Community Engagement and Fan Initiatives
Recognising the central role of supporters in Dundalk’s success, Clinton outlined plans to improve communication and engagement with the club’s fanbase.
“Another priority will be to ensure there is both better communication with and a better offering for our fanbase,” Clinton noted. “We are preparing to launch the new home kit for next season and ensure sufficient stock for fans ahead of the Christmas period.”
In addition to the new kit, Dundalk FC will soon unveil its 2026 Season Ticket package and relaunch the Dundalk FC 500 Club, two initiatives aimed at generating consistent revenue and involving fans more directly in the club’s new era.
Aiming for Stability Ahead of the Centenary Season
Dundalk’s return to the League of Ireland Premier Division has coincided with a broader restructuring effort focused on governance, transparency, and sustainable growth.
Clinton said that while the club faces challenges, his leadership team will work quickly to address them once the new board is appointed.
“These are the immediate tasks at hand,” he stated. “There are many other issues to tackle, but these will be addressed as soon as the management board is in place and begins engaging with our fans, commercial partners, and the wider community.”
