RCD Mallorca has officially launched its first-ever women’s football project, starting with an Alevín (U12) team that will compete in the Fútbol 8 format from the 2025/26 season. The initiative marks a new chapter in the club’s development strategy and reflects a broader industry trend toward long-term investment in women’s football infrastructure. The team will be integrated into Mallorca’s existing youth academy structure and begin training at the Ciutat Esportiva Antonio Asensio in August, with league competition set to begin in October.
Club-Wide Alignment
Pablo Ortells, CEO of Football at the club, framed the project as part of a club-wide philosophy, with full alignment across coaching methods, identity, and academy operations.
“This isn’t a marketing move. It’s a strategic, integrated decision that includes women’s football in our long-term development model,” Ortells stated.
Social Impact RCD Mallorca Women's Football
From a social responsibility standpoint, the club sees the initiative as an opportunity to make a positive impact across the island of Mallorca, where access to structured women’s football pathways remains limited.
Miquel Toni Gelabert, Director of Youth Football, highlighted the importance of scaling the project in line with the club’s resources:
“We’ll grow as our facilities, staff, and systems grow. The idea is to build a full women’s football structure—eventually including a first team—within five or six years.”
