Manchester United has signed a multi-year agreement with SumUp, naming the global fintech company its new Official Sleeve Partner across the club’s men’s, women’s and Academy teams.
The partnership begins with United’s return to the UEFA Champions League on Thursday, when SumUp branding will appear on the sleeve of the playing shirt. The agreement covers all competitions and also includes matchday visibility at Old Trafford and the Progress with Unity Stadium.
Beyond the shirt inventory, Manchester United and SumUp plan to launch a co-branded payment card offering supporters benefits and rewards across official club outlets and participating businesses in the UK.
SumUp Takes Sleeve Rights Across United Teams United
The agreement gives SumUp one of Manchester United’s most prominent commercial assets outside the front of the shirt.
Its logo will feature on the sleeves of match shirts worn by the men’s, women’s and Academy teams across all competitions, providing the fintech company with exposure across multiple parts of United’s football operation.
The sponsorship will also extend into the club’s physical venues, with SumUp receiving matchday visibility at Old Trafford and the Progress with Unity Stadium.
Co-Branded Payment Card Extends Deal Beyond Shirt Visibility
The payment card is the most notable activation announced alongside the sponsorship.
Manchester United and SumUp will jointly introduce a card offering supporters special offers and rewards when spending at official club outlets as well as participating businesses across the UK.
That gives the partnership a transactional component beyond conventional sponsorship exposure.
SumUp operates across both merchant payments and consumer financial services. Its business offering provides companies with tools to accept payments and manage operations, while the SumUp Personal Account is positioned as a consumer product for managing and spending money.
The Manchester United agreement therefore gives SumUp an opportunity to market both sides of its business through the same sports property.
