LaLiga has concluded its selection process for audiovisual production partners for the next five seasons, awarding major operational contracts to Host Broadcast Services (HBS) and Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales (TSA). The new cycle, which runs from 2025 to 2030, covers the audiovisual production of both LaLiga EA SPORTS (first division) and LaLiga HYPERMOTION (second division), including centralized services and distribution infrastructure.
The selection process was finalized on April 14, 2025, and included a rigorous technical and financial evaluation, with consultancy firm Abacanto providing independent assessment on all submitted bids. The decision was ratified by LaLiga’s Management Control Body for Audiovisual Rights, ensuring compliance with both tender specifications and long-term strategic objectives.
Breakdown of Production Responsibilities LaLiga HBSLaLiga HBS
The tender was divided into five distinct lots. Based on their combined technical and financial scoring, HBS and TSA were awarded the following contracts:
Lot 1 – Operating media for LaLiga EA SPORTS
Lot 2 – Operating media for LaLiga HYPERMOTION
Lot 3 – MCR (Master Control Room) and Centralized ServicesAll three were awarded to HBS, a globally recognized production company that has served as the host broadcaster for every FIFA World Cup since 2002, and holds production experience across top-tier competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and AFCON.
Lot 4 – Contribution and Distribution was awarded to TSA, Telefónica’s audiovisual subsidiary, which specializes in technical infrastructure and global signal distribution. TSA has previously operated production services for the UEFA Champions League, the Olympic Games, and Spain’s domestic Copa del Rey.
Lot 5, focused on Content Generation, remains unassigned. According to LaLiga, content production services for this lot will be integrated into broader digital and media initiatives outside the scope of this particular tender.
Strategic Context and Market Implications
This production rights cycle marks a strategic shift in LaLiga’s approach to content operations and delivery. By bringing in HBS, which has a proven track record in global event production, LaLiga is reinforcing its positioning as a premium product in international football broadcasting. The inclusion of TSA for Lot 4 further strengthens LaLiga’s technical foundation, particularly in international signal contribution, distribution, and redundancy systems.
While the value of the contracts has not been publicly disclosed, the five-lot structure allowed LaLiga to segment responsibilities, ensuring specialization and competition across production verticals. This model also provides flexibility for future content integration, especially with Lot 5 being left open for evolving content strategy needs.
Long-Term Goals for Broadcast Innovation
With this cycle, LaLiga is emphasizing innovation, scalability, and production quality as central components of its media rights strategy. The allocation of roles to specialist providers is expected to drive:
Enhanced matchday production standards
Improved service delivery for global broadcast partners
Increased efficiency in centralized infrastructure operations
More agile distribution models for both domestic and international audiences
LaLiga has invested heavily in its own digital infrastructure in recent years, including LaLiga Tech and OTT development, and these new production contracts align with a long-term strategy that views audiovisual excellence as a core asset for both commercial growth and brand equity.
