In a significant move, Borussia Dortmund and Dortmund Stadtwerke AG (DSW21) have announced the premature extension of their partnership until the end of the 2029/30 season. This collaboration sets new standards in two crucial areas: sustainable mobility for home games at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK and unwavering support for women's sports.
Sustainable Mobility: A Blueprint for the Bundesliga
A substantial survey during a Bundesliga home match against VfB Stuttgart in 2022 revealed a remarkable fact: nearly half of the 81,365 fans at the world's most beautiful football stadium rely on public transport. This preference for public transit by approximately 800,000 fans in the 2022/23 season resulted in a significant reduction of 1,679 tons of harmful emissions. This partnership stands as a model for the Bundesliga in promoting sustainable mobility. Over 30 years ago, DSW21 and BVB pioneered the combo match and transport ticket for the VRR area. Their innovation continued in summer 2021, offering a match ticket as a round-trip ticket across North Rhine-Westphalia. Looking forward, they plan to extend this combo ticket to all major Black and Yellow events.
DSW21: A Reliable Partner for Modern, Sustainable Mobility
Heike Heim, CEO of DSW21, emphasized the company's role in advancing transport sustainability. The introduction of an e-bus fleet marks a significant step towards offering BVB fans a more climate-friendly travel option on match days.
Borussia Dortmund: Committed to Climate Protection and Sustainability
BVB managing director Carsten Cramer highlighted the shared commitment to climate protection and sustainability goals between DSW21, DEW21, and Borussia Dortmund. He noted the integral role of DSW21 in the Black and Yellow football experience, with many public transport drivers being ardent BVB supporters themselves.
Empowering Women's Sports: A Key Focus
DSW21 also champions the promotion of women's and girls' sports at BVB. Heike Heim expressed her dedication to supporting talented females in professional contexts. DSW21's commitment is evident in their partnership at the inception of BVB's women's football department, the 21 logo on the women's team kits, and their sponsorship of the handball event "Alle in die Halle" (Everyone in the hall). Additionally, two branded articulated buses featuring the women's handball and football teams circulate the Dortmund line network.
This extended partnership between Borussia Dortmund and DSW21 not only enhances the fan experience but also significantly contributes to sustainability and the promotion of women's sports, setting a standard for others to follow.
