Borussia Mönchengladbach will rename its stadium for the first time in the club’s history, entering into a long-term naming-rights partnership with ista, the German energy-management and building-efficiency company. Beginning with the 2026/27 season, Borussia-Park will officially become ista-Borussia-Park — marking a milestone in the commercial evolution of one of the Bundesliga’s most tradition-conscious clubs.
The agreement extends the collaboration signed earlier in 2025 and will run through 30 June 2031, linking naming rights directly to a broader sustainability and infrastructure modernisation programme across the club’s facilities.
A Historic Shift for a Club That Had Never Sold Naming Rights Borussia Mönchengladbach
Borussia-Park opened in 2004 and, unlike most modern German stadiums, never carried a commercial name. The decision to introduce a naming partner signals a strategic shift as the club adapts to rising operational costs, sustainability requirements and long-term investment needs.
The club emphasised that the hybrid name — ista-Borussia-Park — preserves the “Borussia-Park” identity that supporters have used for two decades, while integrating the club’s first-ever commercial naming partner.
A Naming-Rights Deal Rooted in Infrastructure, Not Branding
Rather than a traditional sponsorship focused primarily on exposure, the agreement is structured around building-efficiency improvements, energy optimisation and sustainability-driven upgrades. ista will support modernisation beyond the stadium itself, working across multiple club facilities.
CEO Dr. Stefan Stegemann underscored that Borussia sought a partner capable of delivering technical improvements rather than a purely commercial logo swap. Rising energy demands and regulatory expectations have made efficiency and sustainability critical elements of stadium operations — now embedded into the naming-rights structure.
ista’s Strategic Role: Technology, Measurement and Modernisation
ista will provide:
• building-performance analytics,
• smart metering and measurement systems,
• energy-consumption transparency tools,
• and long-term operational-efficiency support.
The company’s CEO Hagen Lessing stated that the partnership aligns with shared values of innovation and responsibility. The decision to retain “Borussia-Park” in the name was agreed early to respect tradition and ensure supporter acceptance.
