Borussia Dortmund (BVB) has announced a new premium partnership with Konami Digital Entertainment, marking the club’s return to the eFootball™ video game franchise. The agreement was unveiled during the eFootball™ World Festival in Tokyo, where Konami named BVB its latest Premium Partner.

The collaboration brings Borussia Dortmund back into the Konami ecosystem after a previous licensing agreement that lasted until 2018. The renewed partnership aims to provide a more immersive and authentic digital football experience, integrating both current players and club legends into the eFootball™ platform.

Strategic Gaming Integration Borussia Dortmund Konami

As part of the agreement, Konami will feature:

  • Official Borussia Dortmund kits

  • A highly detailed, in-game recreation of Signal Iduna Park

  • Access to BVB’s first-team squad, club legends, and branded content activations

The integration is designed to bridge the gap between real and virtual football, reflecting the increasing importance of gaming within the broader fan engagement strategies of top clubs.

“Virtual football is a central part of today’s fan culture—especially for younger generations,” said Carsten Cramer, Managing Director of Borussia Dortmund. “We’re pleased to bring BVB into eFootball™ to offer fans around the world a more authentic digital experience.”

Competitive Positioning in the Gaming Space

Konami’s eFootball™ series competes with other leading football simulation titles in the global gaming market. The return of Borussia Dortmund strengthens Konami’s portfolio of licensed clubs, particularly in Europe, where brand authenticity and stadium licensing remain key differentiators.

“We’re proud to welcome Borussia Dortmund back to the eFootball™ family,” said Shinji Namekawa, President of Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. “Their legacy, passionate supporters, and iconic stadium align perfectly with our vision for authentic gameplay.”

The partnership is also expected to include content collaborations with influencers and streamers, enabling additional digital activation across global fanbases.
