AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano have completed the acquisition of the San Siro Great Urban Function, including the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium and its surrounding area, following the signing of the deed of sale with the Municipality of Milan. The transaction marks a pivotal moment for both clubs and the city, opening the door to a new urban and sporting development phase for one of football’s most historic venues.
Joint Development for the San Siro District
The acquisition represents a strategic milestone in the shared ambition of both clubs and their respective owners — RedBird Capital Partners (AC Milan) and funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management (Inter Milan) — to combine sporting success with sustainable growth.
The project includes the construction of a new state-of-the-art stadium and a broader urban regeneration plan for the San Siro district. The initiative aims to transform the area into a modern, multifunctional sports and cultural hub while retaining its symbolic role in Milan’s identity.
Design and Development San Siro
The clubs have appointed Foster + Partners and MANICA Architecture to design and oversee the development of the new stadium and masterplan for the surrounding urban zone.
The new stadium is expected to meet the highest international standards in design, accessibility, and environmental sustainability, and to become a new architectural landmark for Milan.
As part of the wider project, the clubs plan to establish a center of excellence dedicated to sport and culture — integrating innovation, community engagement, and sustainability as key pillars of the redevelopment.
Financial and Transaction Details
The transaction was carried out through Stadio San Siro S.p.A., a special-purpose vehicle jointly owned by AC Milan and Inter Milan.
Financing was provided by an international consortium led by Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan as co-lead arrangers, alongside the clubs’ domestic banking partners Banco BPM and BPER Banca.
This financial structure reflects both clubs’ long-term commitment to responsible investment and the modernization of Milan’s sporting infrastructure, aligning with European benchmarks for sustainable stadium financing.
