In a unique collaboration that brings together music and football, renowned German singer Herbert Grönemeyer will become the sleeve sponsor of VfL Bochum 1848 in the 2024/25 DFB-Pokal season. Grönemeyer, who has long had a deep connection with the city through his famous song "Bochum," now takes that bond to the pitch by supporting the team as a sponsor.
A Dream Fulfilled: “HG 4630 Bochum” Adorns the Pokal Jersey
For the first time, VfL Bochum players will wear the “HG 4630 Bochum” logo on their sleeves as they take the field in the first round of the DFB-Pokal against SSV Jahn Regensburg on Sunday, August 18. This emblem is a tribute to the singer’s double platinum album and highlights the close relationship between Grönemeyer and his hometown.
Herbert Grönemeyer, a passionate VfL fan, expressed his joy about the partnership: “It has always been a big dream of mine to walk onto the Ruhrstadion pitch in a VfL jersey. Although that hasn’t happened, I recently had four amazing concerts there and am now thrilled to have at least made it onto the jersey.” With this gesture, Grönemeyer fulfills a long-held dream and strengthens the bond between music, the city, and football.
Together for a Good Cause: Supporting Local Organizations Herbert Grönemeyer VfL Bochum
The partnership goes beyond just having Grönemeyer’s logo on the jersey. For each of the 4,630 limited-edition jerseys sold at 90 euros, 10 euros will be donated to the “Tafel Bochum & Wattenscheid e.V. - Kindertafel” and “Suppenküche Bochum e.V.” Additionally, the full proceeds from the auction of “matchworn jerseys,” worn by VfL in this and hopefully many future Pokal matches, will be donated through “United Charity” to these organizations.
Tim Jost, Director of Marketing & Sales and a member of VfL’s management board, emphasized the significance of this partnership: “We are incredibly proud to have secured Herbert Grönemeyer, one of the country’s most famous artists, as our Pokal partner. The idea came about during his spectacular concerts at our Vonovia Ruhrstadion. We are very excited that our team will be playing this Pokal season with the legendary HG 4630 Bochum logo and that we can also do something good with it.”
A Partnership in the Spirit of Hometown Pride
The collaboration between VfL Bochum and Herbert Grönemeyer is a powerful statement of the deep connection to the city and region of Bochum. “The city and the Bochum region are close to both our hearts – VfL and Herbert Grönemeyer,” said VfL Managing Director Ilja Kaenzig. “That’s why, this year, we want to use our Pokal jersey to support charitable causes in the area, true to the motto: From Bochum residents, for Bochum residents!”
In addition to the charity initiatives, 46 jerseys signed by the entire VfL Bochum 1848 first-team squad and 30 jerseys signed by superstar Grönemeyer will be raffled off to all purchasers. This offers fans a unique opportunity to own a piece of this special partnership.
