Como 1907 has concluded the first edition of Data on the Lake, a two-day AI hackathon organised by Como 1907, Como Ventures and Google DeepMind, bringing together engineers, data scientists and sports technology professionals to develop practical artificial intelligence applications using real football data.

Held at Villa Gallia in Como on 24 and 25 July, the event took place immediately before the second edition of Football on the Lake and focused on building solutions that could be applied inside a professional football club.

According to Como 1907 Chief Technology Officer Dr. Mo Dabbah, participants worked under time pressure using real datasets rather than simulated case studies.

The hackathon provided teams with access to datasets covering multiple areas of football operations.

According to Dabbah, participants analysed:

• Injury records

• GPS data from training sessions and matches

• Tracking data

• Event data spanning five football leagues

Teams focused on three development areas:

• Data science

• Agentic AI workflows

• Practical AI applications that clubs could implement

Como Ventures Expands Its Innovation Platform

Data on the Lake forms part of the wider Como Ventures initiative, launched by Como 1907 and The Players Fund to connect startups, investors and technology companies with the football industry.

The hackathon extended that strategy by bringing together technical specialists, founders and football executives in Como ahead of Football on the Lake, one of the club's flagship innovation events.

The programme also included contributions from representatives of Google DeepMind, Como Ventures, The Players Fund and Como 1907's football and data science departments.

Executive Comment

Following the conclusion of the event, Como 1907 Group CTO Dr. Mo Dabbah thanked participants and confirmed that projects had been developed using real football datasets under significant time constraints.

He said the hackathon covered injury records, GPS information, tracking data and event data across five leagues, with teams working across data science, agentic workflows and practical applications that clubs could use.

Dabbah added that detailed presentations of the projects developed during the event will be shared in the coming weeks.
